I’ve recently moved to Cambridge (UK) to start an exciting postdoc at the EMBL-EBI. Here’s a drawing of my first “medium” size coffee at Costa.
Being a scientist is an exciting job: you get a certain degree of intellectual freedom, you meet a lot of smart and intelligent guys and you also get to travel a lot (until the funds run out, off course). The downside is that usually you are travelling on your own and its easy to feel a bit lonely. So far I’ve been coping with this situation carrying my camera with me (here, here, here and here for some photographs I’ve taken during conferences). Lately I’ve started to do some notebook drawings, largely inspired by the amazing work of Guy Delisle, who started his graphic novelist carrer drawing a diary of his business trips to asia: his naive yet deep look at North Korea has become a modern classic in citizien journalism.
I certainly don’t want to emulate Delisle, but just want to share some experiences during these lonely journeys; hope you enjoy it.
The first drawings were made during a trip to Gdansk, in Poland, where I was visiting the lab of Prof. Lojkowska. It has been a really interesting trip!
